All of my photo shoots are relaxed, personal, fun - but most of all based around you!  My 16 plus years as a Press Photographer for newspapers and magazines, has honed my style of helping people to relax and capture them looking un-selfconscious and unaware of the camera.  If you're not too keen on the idea of being photographed - don't worry - this will be fun!

– Frequently Asked Questions –

Where are you based and is travel included in the session fee?

I'm based in St. Agnes, Cornwall.  Travel up to 20 miles from St. Agnes (TR5 0) is included in the session fee but a small mileage fee applies for locations further afield.

Do you have a studio?

No, I don't have a studio (see below!) but a client’s needs, will always determine where we shoot and an indoor studio setup can easily be arranged upon asking.  Also depending upon the nature of the shoot, the environment can vary.  It might be in your own home for a Newborn baby shoot or in a romantic corn field at sunset - as you announce your engagement.  It’s all do-able.

Why do you prefer Location Shoots?

Because my favourite studio of all is the great outdoors!  Mackerel skies, hayfields and sand dunes are my favourite backgrounds.  Natural light is the real thing.  I can emulate it when it’s not around, but when it is, there’s no substitute for its beauty.  The clouds are the best soft box I could never buy and Mother Nature reigns supreme when it comes to mixing a mean palate of colour.  There is a big, beautiful world out there; I like to use it.

WHat if it’s bad weather?

Leading up to the shoot I'll monitor the weather and if it looks like a monsoon is coming I'll be in touch! Otherwise, a bit of wind or moody skies can really add to a location shoot.  As a location photographer I rarely feel the need to re-schedule, but will if it is heavy rains or dangerous conditions.

Why choose a location shoot over a studio?

Everyone has their preference, but in my opinion it's more authentic: to be photographed in a place you go to relax as a family.  If you love the beach, let's go there.  If it's real for you it won't feel like a photo shoot and we'll get some natural and authentic photos that will actually mean something to you because they reflect who you and your loved ones are.

How long does the session last?

The shoot lasts between 1 - 2 hours.  I don't watch the clock, but stay until I feel I have the pictures I want.  2 hours is usually enough to get a really good range of pictures and tire any little ones out so they are ready for a nap!

Will we look stiff and formal?

No, my objective is to capture you and your loved ones, interacting with each other, laughing, sharing a moment or just being together in a special place - or also - at a special time in your lives.  Yourselves looking natural, like a day out having fun - NOT like a posed photo shoot!

I feel awkward when being photographed!

I hear this a lot!  However as the shoot is based around authentic interaction between you and your loved ones, it's geared towards getting you to forget about my presence.  I will help you to do this and am happy to step in with any gentle direction and tips on how to stand and what to do to make you genuinely relax.  As a professional photographer I've had to operate in many different conditions with the same objective, getting an uncontrived image.  I will work with you to find your happy place and get some genuine smiles.

What if my children misbehave?

As a Mum myself, please don't let this worry you! Most photos will be taken whilst they are interacting with YOU so they will be natural and happy.  But if they are feeling out of sorts, I will happily suggest something else or take them off for a few photos on their own so they can have a look at the dragon/princess that lives inside my camera!

How do I book a photo shoot?

To book a photo shoot, please get in touch either by clicking here or giving me a call on 07511 525878 for an informal chat.  I'd love to hear more about what sort of shoot you'd like and when you'd like to do it.

50% of your session fee books in your shoot - with the remainder due the day before the shoot itself.

What experience do you have?

I am a professionally trained, experienced and award winning press photographer.  With over 16 years working for newspapers and magazines in the UK and New Zealand, Portraits are one of my favourite aspects of photography! They have been a natural progression for me - blending my candid photojournalism with my love of creative portraiture, is a dream job!

WHY ‘WILD AND FREE’?

I chose Wild and Free Photography because I really do believe that 'all good things are wild and free'.  And I believe the best photographs reflect this, capturing life in all its crazy untamed glory!  My favourite photographs always show some combination of emotion, spontenaity, interraction and nature if possible.

Are you insured?

Yes I hold full Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance as part of my professional photography cover.

How long before my images are ready?

It's usually between 2 weeks before your final edited and presented images are ready.  Although sometimes 2-4 during the busy summer months, I will advise if so.
